The 18th IBA Conference will take place at The Technical University of Liberec (TUL) in Czech Republic

Useful information

  • All public buildings, bus/railways stations and platforms are smoke free inside as well as outside. The restaurants and pubs are also smoke free, smoking is generally allowed outside the pubs/restaurant.
  • Currency: Czech crone (Česká koruna); international code CZK – approximately 25 crones for 1 Euro
  • Phone Code: Country code: +420, all phone numbers have 9 digits, except special numbers. The toll free numbers begin with 800
  • Emergency telephone number(s): European: dial just 112; local: dial just 150 – fire brigade, 155 – ambulance, 158 – police, 1210 – mountain Rescue service; no country code is needed, no charge.
  • Time zone: Central Europe Summer Time (=GMT +2) from March to October.
  • Electricity: 220 volts AC, 50Hz; European standard: circular with one hole and two pin plugs
  • Average June temp: 15°C, precipitation: 12 days in June about 80 mm, about 200 hours of sunshine.
  • Language: Czech (young persons are able to speak English; some persons can speak German).
  • Majority of shops and restaurants accept Visa and MasterCards. The contactless card is widely used; no PIN is required up to 500 CZK.
  • Tipping: Tips are required/expected in bars, pubs and restaurant. Tipping usually express your satisfaction with the service, food, drinks. The usual tip in restaurant is less than 10%, if the service was good, more than 10% if the service was excellent (giving no tip is rude, it is used only if you are really disappointed with the service). Round the sum in bill accordingly. When paying by card, it is usual to give the small change directly to waiter as a tip. No tips are required/expected in shops, hotels, room services (maid) or on guided tours.

How to get there

Pre-conference trip will start in Budapest (details will be provided before 1. September 2019). The participants will arrive to Liberec at 14. June 2019 afternoon by conference bus

Conference participants may use
  • Plain: An international airport at Prague and use train and/or bus to arrive to Liberec at 15th June 2019. Use application IDOS to search for public transport connection from “Letiště Václava Havla (Terminál 1)” to “Liberec”.
    If there would be a needs for larger group (from 15 person), we can arrange the transport from Prague to Liberec by our bus.

    The next possibility is to arrive to airport Dresden. Use the same application IDOS to search for public transport connection to Liberec.

  • Train and/or bus: The main Middle European cities are connected by the trains or busses with Liberec. At IDOS search for possibilities and details of the connection.
  • Car: Rent a car is very comfortable, cheap and save possibility to get around Czech. Liberec lays on the speed way number E442 connecting German border with Prague through E65 (D10). Driving from Prague to Liberec takes usually less than hour (depends on traffic).

Post conference participants will be transported to the Prague airport by the Conference bus on 23. June 2019. Details will be provided later, before 1. September 2018

Visa

Holders of all European passposts and holders of passposrts of many other countries may enter the Czech without pre issued visa. The complet list is here.

The holders of passports from countries not listed here is required to obtain visa prior to their arrival. Please contact the main organizer for help.
